Headteacher's Introduction to Curriculum Morning

Spring Term 2025

Welcome to Foundation 2

We are on our second full term already, and the children are working hard to remember and follow our school values. They show an amazing growth mindset, working and playing hard inside and out.

This term, the Big Question we will use to link lots of our learning and thinking is...

HOW COULD WE HELP?

We are using stories and the changing seasons to think and talk about how we could help in different ways, from helping animals in winter, pets, and pond animals to helping each other be the best version of ourselves. Lots of our learning will be done through our key texts:

We will continue to revise all the letters and sounds. We have been introduced to so far to read simple words and sentences and to write words and simple sentences.

The Curriculum page on the website helps you find out more about each subject. Please familiarise yourself with the document "Foundation 2 at Brookdale," which can be downloaded at the bottom of this page and provides more information about our curriculum and our approach to learning in F2.

Supporting Learning and Playing at Home

Teach Your Monster to Read: Is a great resource to support those literacy skills.

Monterey Bay Aquarium: Live webcams of all sorts of animals, including otters, jellyfish and the coral reef.

Nature School: Some lovely activities - you will recognise some that you have completed already.

RSPCAAlso offers some lovely nature-related activities.

Learning Through Landscapes: Even more outdoor activities! Let's hope for good weather.

Whiterose Maths: Continue to keep maths ideas flowing based around a book. You can usually find someone reading the book online if you search around.

Oxford Reading Owl: Most of you have accessed this, which has a free library. Aim for Phase 2 or 3 books from Letters and Sounds in the pulldown menu.

Starfall: Is a new website I found recently. Although American, it has some good resources matching the UK curriculum.

Mr Mc: Most of you have found Mr Mc's phonics videos. Love him or hate him, we can only applaud his efforts of keeping phonics teaching going through the lockdown.

Phonics Play: They are giving free access to their games - Phase 2 and 3 are where you should aim for.

Phonics Bloom as above.

Ace Early Years: Have lots of ideas for English, maths, outdoors and funky finger-type activities.

Oak National Academy: Offers structured lessons on video for English, Maths and across the curriculum (foundation) activities.

You can also look out for virtual days at Chester Zoo and Longleat Safari Park and you might have seen Knowsley too.
