At Brookdale Primary School, discrete spelling lessons are taught from Year 1 to Year 6 as a continuation of the children's KS1 Phonics provision. We strongly believe in drawing upon the children's phonics knowledge in order to teach spelling effectively throughout the school.

We use Pathways to Spell as our scheme of learning to ensure consistency and continuity across all year groups. We also encourage the use of spelling mats and word banks in order to encourage the children's independence.
