Welcome to Year 6

Our Summer Term Big Question is:

Is it the little things that matter most?

 

This term, our Big Question – “Is it the little things that matter most?” – will shape much of our learning as we explore how small actions, choices and moments can have a significant impact.

Through our English lessons, we will develop reading and writing skills using the text 'Way Home', exploring how empathy and feelings can be conveyed through small actions, gestures and movements. This will help us deepen our understanding of characters and enhance our own writing. Guided reading will continue to cover 'The Silver Sword', a powerful novel set during and after the Second World War, exploring themes of resilience, family and survival.

In Science, children will learn about the circulatory system, including the roles of the heart, blood and blood vessels in keeping our bodies healthy. Our History lessons will focus on the Shang Dynasty, while Geography will build an understanding of what China is like, allowing children to make links across their learning.

RE lessons will explore the concept of suffering and what it means in different contexts. Meanwhile, Art will provide opportunities to experiment with layering and painting techniques inspired by a range of artists, encouraging creativity and attention to detail.
