Pupil Leadership
At Brookdale, we believe that every child should feel that they belong, are valued and have a meaningful voice in the life of our school. Pupil leadership is an important part of our wider personal development offer, giving children purposeful opportunities to contribute to their school community and influence how it develops.
Our pupil leadership groups include Year 6 Values Ambassadors, School Council, Reading Ambassadors, Wellbeing Ambassadors and PE Ambassadors. Each group has a clear purpose and defined responsibilities, ensuring that leadership roles are meaningful rather than simply a title.
Through these roles, pupils have opportunities to:
- represent the views of other pupils and communicate these to staff and school leaders;
- contribute ideas and feedback about different aspects of school life;
- take an active role in school improvement;
- help ensure that pupils feel welcome, included, safe and valued;
- lead activities, events, assemblies and projects;
- promote our school values and positive attitudes and behaviours;
- develop confidence, independence, communication, teamwork and responsibility; and
- learn that their actions and contributions can make a positive difference to others.
Our pupil leaders meet regularly with staff and school leaders to gather and share pupil views, reflect on what is working well and suggest ways in which provision could be strengthened. In this way, pupils are active participants in the development of Brookdale and are encouraged to become increasingly confident in expressing their views, listening to others and advocating for themselves and their peers.
We are committed to ensuring that pupil leadership opportunities are inclusive and accessible, so that children with different strengths, experiences and needs have opportunities to participate and contribute.
